Winter Skin Care

As Egypt’s weather is becoming unbearably cold, we are starting to struggle with winter dryness. Because we live most of the year in warm to hot weather, our skin can get flaky when exposed to the not-so-Egypt winter weather! Here are some tips to relieve the cracking and drying out of our precious skin.

Facial Skin

Even if you apply moisturiser, facial skin can still get dry in the winter. To avoid making your skin uncomfortably dry, stay away from harsh face masks and any makeup and skin products that are alcohol-based. Always look for cosmetics that are free of alcohol, parabens, sulphates and phthalates. This way, you will only expose your skin to moisturizing products with essential minerals for complete hydration. Make sure you look for moisturisers that are oil-based, instead of water-based for smoother skin.

It’s essential to keep your lips moisturised in the winter. Applying lip moisturiser containing beeswax or petroleum jelly will help relieve dryness and repair your lips. Also, try to avoid spicy and salty foods during the winter when you have chapped lips.

Because hands are always exposed, it is usually hard to keep them moisturised at all times. To protect your thin-skinned hands, go for butter creams; they are the most effective in the winter as they avoid cracking and itchiness of the skin. Also, try to keep your hands warm at all times by wearing gloves.

To keep feet soft and smooth, you must find lotions that are rich in glycerine. A good home remedy to cure dry feet is placing your feet in hot water for 10 minutes; then, applying a glycerine-based lotion and sealing it in by wearing socks. This will help your skin absorb all the moisture, and you will get faster results.

Full Body

For full body moisture, avoid hot showers at all costs! Even though they feel relaxing and warm after a freezing day outside, they break your skin and cause it to become dry. Try to pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it with a towel to avoid any irritations. To moisturise, try butter creams, as well as oils. Check that your moisturiser has anti-oxidants for more beautiful-looking skin.
