West vs. East

Oddly Similar Films

We often can recognize immediately when a film is way too similar to one we had seen before! Whether it’s just due to some curiously similar dialogue or an almost identical script, a few Egyptian movies seemed a little too familiar. Here are five movies that were, to say the least, ‘inspired’ by earlier Western films.

Accepted & EUC

The Egyptian movie EUC (2011) starring Karim Qassem, Mohamed Salam and Amr Abed shares the same concept as Accepted (2006) starring Justin Long, Blake Lively and Lewis Black. The events of both films revolve around a group of young people who create a fake private university after failing to obtain high grades in high school.

This Means War & Gawaza Meree (Marriage with a Purpose)

Gawaza Meree (2014) starring Yasmine Abdel Aziz, Hassan Al Raddad and Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz revolves around two friends who are officers and fall in love with the same girl. Similarly, the romantic comedy This Means War (2012) starring Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, revolves around the same plot – coincidence? We think not!

Stuck on you & Hassan w Bokloz (Hassan and Bokloz)

Hassan w Bokloz (2016) starring Karim Fahmy, Ali Rabie and Yusra Al Lawzi and Stuck on You (2003) starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear – both surprisingly contain similar scenes as the Jackie Chan movie Twin Dragons. Both comedies revolve around conjoined twins and situations that they are exposed to.

The Pacifier & Amn Dawlat (Dawlat’s Security)

Both films revolve around an officer who goes undercover to protect a group of children. Amn Dawlat (2011) stars Hamada Hilal and Sherry Adel, while The Pacifier (2005) stars Vin Diesel and Lauren Graham.

Back to the Future & Samir & Shahir & Baheer

Samir, Shahir and Bahir (2010) starring Ahmed Fahmy, Hisham Majed and Chico is almost identical to Back to the Future (1985) starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson. Both films revolve around characters who by mistake go on a journey through time and return to the day their father got acquainted with their mother and ruin it, but they try to fix everything in a comedic manner.
