The Return of Egyptian Tourism

As in all countries, Egyptian tourism was highly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.  Recently, Egypt opened its airport, welcoming international flights after three months of suspension, while continuing to take strict safety precautions.   Egypt has also been busy preparing new attractions for an expected boom in the tourism sector once things get back to normal.

Cairo’s Eye

You’ve surely heard of the famous London Eye, and may even have visited it to get a panoramic view of the British capital.  Well, the good news is that Egypt is launching its own large Ferris wheel, “Cairo’s Eye,” with 32 cabins accommodating 15,000 people a day to enjoy a one-of-a-king view of fascinating Cairo. Cairo’s Eye will be strategically located near Giza, which houses some of Egypt’s major archaeological attractions!

The Royal Carriages Museum Reopening

The Royal Carriages Museum in Cairo, is expected to reopen in the upcoming few months, after having been closed for 20 years for restoration.  The restoration started back in 2001 but was put on hold for 16 whole years until it picked back up three years ago in 2017, at a cost of around EGP 68 million. Today the museum is back to its former glory.

The Grand Egyptian Museum

After years of anticipation, the Grand Egyptian Museum is finally set to open later this year or early 2021. The ultra-modern state of the art museum will display the collection of King Tutankhamun, brought from the Cairo Museum, along with a treasure trove of other significant, ancient Egyptian artefacts. The museum announced that the entry ticket will be 400 EGP for foreigners with 50% off for students. First envisaged in 1992, this giant project has been a long time in the making! The Egyptian Grand Museum is aptly located right beside the Giza plateau which is dominated by the Great Pyramids of Giza.
