20 year old Egyptian footballer Sarah Essam reached new heights this season, scoring 12 goals in just 12 appearances, winning her the title of Stoke City’s Top Scorer and the team’s Golden Boot award. Thanks to her fiery scoring streak, the Stoke City Development Team were able to finish third in their league this season.
Last time we spoke to the football star, she had just begun playing for the Stoke City team, sharing with us about her first match, Essam said “I knew that I had a responsibility towards thousands of young girls who aspire to follow unconventional careers. It was my job to make them believe that anything is possible. I was once their age and needed a local role model to look up to.” From winning the Arab Woman of the Year award for her achievements in sports last year, to this new top scoring award, it is clear that Essam is taking this responsibility to heart, becoming the winning role model that young Egyptian girls need, especially in a sport that is all too often perceived as being male-dominated.

Already making history at such an early stage in her sporting career, we have high hopes for this champion’s bright future!
