ROYALTY ON THE RUNWAY

Dolce & Gabbana’s recent spring/summer 2019 show in Milan was extraordinary by all means. The show was all about making people feel good about themselves and giving them confidence to embrace their diversity.  “Each one of us is the king or queen of our own lives!” Dolce stated. However, Dolce’s statement took on a more literal sense with the debut of Bahraini Princess Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa joining the fabulous array of diverse models on the runway.

The lawyer, fashion designer and blogger – Sheikha Dana Al Khalifa wore a chic puff sleeved dress covered in poppies as she walked down the runway.  And as royals usually do, Sheikha Dana also wore a crown, but this time a flower one. Al Khalifa, who is also known as The Overdressed on Instagram wrote, “Thank you @dolcegabbana for letting me experience something so grand, it was an absolute dream! Now back to reality I go.”

More than 170 models with different ages, backgrounds and body types joined in the show celebrating family and inclusivity. Veteran Italian actresses and international models like Monica Bellucci, and Carla Bruni, Isabella Rossellini were on the runway. The show also included 70-year-old beauty Maye Musk, Emma Weymouth, the first black viscountess in Britain, plus-size model/activist Ashley Graham, English supermodel Karen Elson and even some babies.
