In the idyllic neighborhood of Garden City, tucked into one of its signature tree-lined streets, lies the Arab African International Bank’s (AAIB) headquarters in Cairo. Its modern glass façade and upscale interiors were the setting for a spirited press conference hosted by Sherif Hassan, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at AAIB, Maria Sanchez, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Maison Pyramide, and finally Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf, the designer sisters behind OKHTEIN. The dynamic discourse that took place shone a light on how all these diverse organizations work in tandem to help young local designers earn a space in the bustling global market.
Egypt’s homegrown fashion brand, OKHTEIN, has been making waves across the world with their brilliant designs and daring prints. Everyone, from the Kardashian matriarch, Kris Jenner, to the reigning pop star Beyoncé, and even the effortlessly chic, Queen Rania, has been seen rocking one of OKHTEIN’s signature bags. Although the talented sisters tirelessly worked to make their dream of becoming a global brand a reality, it wouldn’t have been possible without the combined efforts of Maison Pyramide and AAIB.
From the beginning AAIB played a huge role in OKHTEIN’s brand development. When upgrading their business from just an Instagram page to a full-fledged e-commerce company, the sisters used AAIB’s designated bank portal on their website so that customers from all over the world could place orders. By doing so, AAIB helped to thrust OKHTEIN’s brand onto a positive trajectory, paving its path for growth and acceleration. Working with OKHTEIN is part of AAIB’s effort to continue to support young talents, promoting entrepreneurship and thus contributing to the development of the country as a whole.
Maison Pyramide is another prominent Egyptian born start-up which AAIB helped accelerate. The country’s leading fashion PR entity helped push countless regional brands into the global spotlight, most notably their first client, OKHTEIN.
Most recently, AAIB played a massive role in Maison Pyramide’s latest venture, launching their popup at Harvey Nichols in London. From May 27 to July 14 the MPxHN popup provided an opportunity for young talents to display their products in one of the most iconic department stores in the world, allowing them to expand their business and reach a wider customer audience. The popup featured OKHTEIN, along with several notable up-and-coming designers from the region. A huge success, Harvey Nichols has asked Maison Pyramide to organise another pop-up shop in the near future.
The collaboration between OKHTEIN, AAIB and Maison Pyramide demonstrates what can happen when they all come together to push the country towards a greater, brighter and definitely more fashionable future.
