Oblu Nature Helengeli by Sentido

A Spectacular Maldives Gateaway

In the magical Maldives, nestled at the serene tip of the Northern Malé Atoll and embraced by the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean, lies the revamped paradise OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO which reopened on December 21, 2023. Picture yourself in a magical, setting steps away from a spellbinding house reef and a breathtaking channel diving experience, where the wonders of the underwater world unfold before your eyes. The resort is perched between two deep channels forming the grandest water inlet of the North Malé Atoll, bursting with tropical fish and a wide variety of marine life. The house reef is a true paradise for divers. With the reopening of the island to guests, eniGma’s Farida Elserty had the incredible opportunity to be among the first few to experience this reimagined haven. Here is her firsthand impression.

I landed in the Maldives at Velana International Airport situated on the beautiful island of Hulhulé, just two kilometres from the capital, Malé. The Helengeli team awaited me at the airport with a warm welcome, and we hopped on a speedboat for a 50-minute ride to Helengeli Island. It was a scenic journey, and I couldn’t wait to start my island adventure.

The resort, OBLU NATURE Helengeli by SENTIDO, part of the innovative brand, COLOURS OF OBLU by Atmosphere Core, promises something special for everyone, attracting a wide range of guests seeking exotic retreats, pristine beaches, and ultimate relaxation. From seasoned globetrotters to couples, families, honeymooners, and those with a millennial mindset, it caters to diverse tastes and preferences. Regardless of who walks through its doors, the goal remains the same: to fulfil the dreams and expectations of its guests with genuine warmth and hospitality.

The superior four-star resort has been redesigned and renovated to bring guests closer to the abundant tropical environment, both above and below the water. Several new facilities were added, including a kids’ club, an overwater gymnasium, an arrival jetty, a departure lounge, and the standout speciality restaurant – Raga Route. Upgrades were also made to Just Grill, Helen’s Pool Bar, the adult’s pool, and other public areas to ensure a more relaxed island experience.

The resort offers travellers a unique holiday plan called the ‘OBLU Island Plan,’ which combines luxury and leisure seamlessly. Guests can choose from 153 beach and water villas and suites in eight categories, all featuring vibrant and trendy interiors in a Maldivian tropical style that blends perfectly with the lush green island. Every villa has a private veranda or overwater deck, an open-air bathroom, and direct access to either the beach or lagoon. Standard amenities include king-size beds, air conditioning, a fan, coffee and tea-making machines, a hairdryer, an electronic safe, a signature beach bag, life jackets, and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. Additionally, the mini-fridge is stocked daily with beers, and soft drinks as part of the holiday package.

The eight categories include the Deluxe Beach Villas, the Deluxe Beach Villas With Pool, Bedroom Family Villas with a Pool, the Bedroom Beach Suites with Pool, Lagoon Villas, Water Villas with Pool, and the Water Suite. In addition to this array of options, the resort also offers an exclusive Water Villa with a Wedding Pavilion, providing an unforgettable setting for the Renewal of Vow ceremonies. During my stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing the Lagoon Villas with Pool, and it truly felt like a piece of paradise. The highlight for me was the generous size of the room which has everything that anyone could need.

The single-price or the “OBLU Island Plan™” is designed to provide guests with an immersive OBLU NATURE experience. It encompasses a variety of offerings including complimentary airport transfers on arrival and departure, high-quality world cuisine at various venues, along with a range of activities to enjoy. Guests enjoy unlimited access to snorkelling equipment and Indian Ocean excursions as well as the resort’s fitness program featuring a variety of group sessions such as yoga, meditation, pilates, beach jogging, body sculpting, core stability, and cardio strength training.

The plan includes several dining options at Helengeli Island’s array of delightful restaurants. The Spice, the island’s main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner boasts an expanded overwater deck and an impressive new bar overlooking the turquoise lagoon. Here, guests can savour a sumptuous buffet featuring international and local Maldivian dishes, alongside live cooking stations and delectable desserts.

For a romantic beachside dining experience, head to the Just Grill which offers mouthwatering fish and meat dishes with stunning ocean views. Just Grill has refreshed its interiors and expanded its menu to include pizzas and Mediterranean delicacies. I still dream about the Surf and Turf plate I had there.

Raga Route takes centre stage as the island’s newest fine dining gem, offering progressive Indian cuisine in a modern and elegant setting. I thoroughly enjoyed the Indian food on offer and was fascinated by the amazing soups they served.
HELEN’S – Bar & Pool, a revamped hangout spot with a bohemian chic vibe is also not to be missed. Complete with over-water hammocks, indoor games, and a DJ station, it’s the perfect place to relax. Every Friday you can groove to the beat of traditional Maldivian drums while sipping their fabulous drinks. Personally, I couldn’t get enough of their non-alcoholic mojitos.

When it comes to activities, the resort offers something for everyone. At the upgraded Adults Pool, complete with a limited-service poolside bar, guests can soak up the sun and indulge in poolside service, sipping on refreshing beverages and nibbling on bar snacks. For those seeking ultimate relaxation, there’s ELE | NA The Spa, an intimate spa sanctuary offering a variety of wellness, spa, and beauty treatments in serene indoor or outdoor settings. My personal experience at the spa was nothing short of heavenly—the professional staff and tranquil atmosphere made for an unforgettable day of pampering. Not to forget the herbal iced tea they served, which was truly divine.

Finally, adventure awaits guests with the resort’s incredible diving experiences. The underwater world is right at your fingertips at the house reef, ideal for channel diving and sightings of majestic sea creatures like turtles, reef sharks, and manta rays. In addition, there are over 30 world-famous diving spots nearby, so there are plenty of exploration opportunities. There’s also the 5* PADI-certified dive school and water sports centre, TGI Helengeli at guests’ disposal. Run by a team of experienced, multilingual professional divers, you can rest assured you are in good hands. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert diver, TGI Helengeli offers a range of diving certifications to suit every level. Their highly trained instructors will guide you through the necessary dives required for certification.

Families will also love the Kids Club & Nature Center, an interactive learning hub where young guests (aged four years and above) can discover the wonders of nature both above and below the water. Each day, a range of exciting activities is organised, providing children with enriching experiences. And before you leave the resort, don’t forget to head over to ‘O’ SHOP and La Promenade to pick up delightful gifts to take home. This charming boutique offers a delightful selection of traditional Maldivian crafts, souvenirs, island essentials, locally made gifts, and handicrafts.
