This week, everyone’s favourite streaming service, Netflix, took one step further in recognising the expanse of talent that Egypt has to offer. In collaboration with Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy and director Amr Salama they will be bringing to the screen, the novel series, Paranormal, the literary masterpiece of the late Egyptian author, Ahmed Khaled Tawfik. Hefzy and Salama previously collaborated together on the award-winning film Sheikh Jackson in 2017.
This project is the first collaboration between Netflix and a full-fledged Egyptian team of creatives, and hopefully marks the first of many. With an online audience of nearly 150 million people across the globe, access to this platform will provide a huge boost to the Egyptian entertainment industry.
The Paranormal series is set in the 1960s and revolves around Dr. Refaat Ismail, a haematologist who falls into a loop of supernatural incidents. With the books selling over 15 million copies, the web series adaptation is likely to be a big hit! Stay tuned for more information as to when we can expect this must-watch series to hit our screens.
