Metallica and Five Bands that Are Rocking Their Way Past Father Time

Exit light, enter night; Metallica are back! The legendary heavy metal band released their new album, Hardwired…to Self-Destruct, over the weekend, marking their first record since 2008’s Death Magnetic. We haven’t heard the album yet, but early reviews have been fairly positive, indicating that Hetfield and Co. still have their trademark vibrancy and vigor nearly 35 years after they first burst onto the scene.

Here at eniGma, we’re nothing if not thinkers; and well, that got us thinking! We quickly realized that Metallica aren’t the only masters that are still pulling their strings and rocking their way through Father Time. Here are five other groups that have continued to illustrate that nothing else matters if there’s some fuel left for the fire…

The Rolling Stones:

Let’s start with an obvious one, shall we? The Rolling Stones have now been painting it black for over 50 years. Yes, 50 as in a five followed by a zero. I guess you could say that it’s been a pleasure to meet them and be puzzled by the nature of their game at this point. Oh and by the way, they’re releasing a new album this December.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers:

Their music doesn’t give it away, but with the sole exception of new lead guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, these funk rock pioneers are now all into their 50s. They’ve been helping us step from the row to the sea to the sky for 33 years now, constantly taking us to the place we love, taking us all the way.

U2:

The luck of the Irish is a myth if these dudes still haven’t found what they’re looking for by now, right? 40 years and 13 studio albums after they first burst onto the scene, Bono and his mates are still spreading beautiful days all around the world with their continuous array of albums and unquenchable thirst for touring.

Pearl Jam:

The masters of the even flow are now all in their 50s. It still feels like yesterday when these Seattle dissidents, along with their grunge contemporary Nirvana, crystallized the sound of the 90s with their aggressive melodies and unmistakable style. More than 20 years later, they’re still touring constantly and fascinating new and old audiences alike.

Iron Maiden:

These metal legends have been electrifying crowds for over 40 years now, showing no fear of the dark whatsoever throughout. They released their 16th studio album last year, and show no signs of stopping anytime soon. Hallowed be their names.
