Major General Abdel Majeed Saqr was appointed Egypt’s Minister of Defence in July 2024. Saqr had previously held various positions in the Egyptian Armed Forces, including Assistant Minister of Defence in 2015, and then moved on to serve as Governor of Suez in 2018. He has made significant strides in modernising the Egyptian Armed Forces, prioritising the adoption of advanced technologies and improving operational capabilities. He has also strengthened military cooperation with international allies to enhance Egypt’s defence capabilities and regional security.
