Katy Perry recently celebrated her 35th birthday in Cairo with her new fiancée, Orlando Bloom along with a number of friends and family members. They visited several of Egypt’s attractions, including Siwa Oasis, the White desert and the Pyramids of Giza.  Adopting the local culture, Perry was seen wearing the traditional Egyptian Galabia.

Katy and Orlando described their Egypt trip as a magnificent, spiritual and heart-opening experience. On Instagram, Bloom posted, “It’s like looking out over the entire cosmos – Egyptian magic got my heart open to a download of love,” while Perry captioned her picture with, “This is living!”

On the emotional significance of this trip to her, Perry said, ”Ancient Egyptians believed that when you pass on, your heart had to be weighed. It had to be lighter than a feather to be qualified for the trip to the afterlife. My mother has called me feather since I was a little girl, and I hope after all is said and done, my heart is as light as one.”

Feeling the same magic that Orlando and Perry felt about Egypt, Perry’s friends and family also posted glowing reviews of their time here. “Its magical vibrations will forever run through my veins,” said one of their posts.

Already planning a trip back, Perry’s friend, the famous costume designer Johnny Wujek, exclaimed, “So much light and inspiration. Let’s go back. Who’s in?”
