Jackie Chan’s Journey to the Oscars

Stunt master, actor, singer and producer, the world’s most iconic martial artist, Jackie Chan, has proven that there’s nothing he can’t do. And just when we thought we have seen it all, Jackie Chan pulls another stunt…pun intended. With more than 200 films under his belt and a 56-year career in the movie industry, Chan finally received an Honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards. The climb to the top of his career definitely wasn’t easy, even for someone with his agility. Here are 5 things you probably didn’t know he did on the way to stardom:

1- Chan began his acting career as a child star at the age of five, appearing in small roles. He appeared in his first film, the Hong Kong feature, Big and Little Wong Tin Bar (1962), at the age of eight.

2- In 1975, due to the failures of his early work in films and trouble finding stunt work, Chan starred in a comedic adult film,  All in the Family, in which he did his first nude scene.

3- Chan started producing records professionally in the 1980s and has produced over 20 albums. Chan sings the theme songs of his films whenever possible; his first was the theme song to the movie The Young Master, which was titled Kung Fu Fighting Man.

4- Chan got his big break in 1978 with his first kung fu movie, Drunken Master. He then acted in several other successful movies that led him to become one of Hong Kong’s biggest stars. Chan became an international sensation when he co-starred alongsideChris Tucker in Rush Hour.

5- Aside from acting, Chan manages his own branded merchandise and has co-funds a cinema chain in Beijing, Jackie Chan-Yaolai International Cinema.
