Renowned acting coach and author Ivana Chubbuck, internationally acclaimed for her seminal book The Power of the Actor, recently led an exclusive workshop and master class in Egypt as part of a training program designed to support and educate uprising actors, marking a significant moment for the local performing arts community. Directed by Luke Lehner Studios, the sessions created a dynamic and immersive learning environment that brought together a distinguished group of Egyptian actors, including Nour El Nabawy, Ahmed Malek, Mayan El Sayed, Ali El Sabaa, Dalia Shawky, Sedky Sakhr, and Ahmed Talaat, alongside many other emerging and established talents. The gathering offered a rare opportunity for cross-cultural artistic exchange, placing Egyptian performers in direct dialogue with one of the most influential acting methodologies in contemporary cinema and television.

At the core of the experience was the Ivana Chubbuck Method, a psychologically driven acting approach designed to push performers beyond surface-level emotion and into purposeful, action-oriented storytelling. Rooted in the belief that every character is driven by a powerful objective, the method teaches actors to identify what their character wants to win, whether love, freedom, power, validation, or survival, and to pursue that goal relentlessly throughout the scene. Central to the process is the transformative use of personal pain, trauma, and life experiences, not as emotional indulgence, but as fuel that empowers the actor to overcome obstacles and create cathartic, truthful performances.

Through a structured 12-step process that includes deep script analysis, personal substitution, and the technique of endowing the world of the scene with heightened meaning, actors are guided to make bold, unapologetic choices and fully embrace the complexity of human behavior. Emphasis is placed on action rather than emotional display, encouraging performers to channel inner conflict into concrete behavior that drives the narrative forward. The result is a form of acting that is both deeply authentic and empowering, fostering transformation not only within the actor’s performance, but also in the emotional experience of the audience. The workshop ultimately reinforced the enduring relevance of Chubbuck’s methodology, highlighting its ability to unlock raw truth, strength, and emotional clarity in performances across cultures and creative landscapes.
