Dr. Islam Azzam was appointed Executive Chairman of Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) in March 2026. A highly respected financial expert and a tenured Associate Professor of Finance at The American University in Cairo (AUC), Azzam previously served as Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) and as Vice Chairman of the FRA since 2021. Under his leadership, the authority has significantly accelerated the modernisation of the non-banking financial sector, focusing on launching the financial derivatives market and integrating advanced fintech solutions into digital consumer finance services.
