HASSAN ABDALLA

Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt

Hassan Abdullah was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt in 2022 after serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Media Services Company since May 2021. Since assuming leadership, Abdallah has overseen a steady rise in Egypt’s foreign exchange reserves, which have reached levels sufficient to cover several months of imports. He has also benefited from recent reforms in reserve requirements (now at 18%) to bolster liquidity and banking sector stability. This progress helped secure Egypt’s imports for nearly 8 months. Abdullah also implemented an ambitious financial inclusion strategy for 2022-2025, focusing on integrating marginalised groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities, into the formal economy.
