Hana Elawadi, society darling and budding jewellery designer, has sauntered onto the fashion scene with a breakthrough line of beautiful bracelets. With a family flair for fashion – see her fashionista sister Heba’s clothing line Hebz – Hana comes straight from a business degree at the American University in London to share her funky designs with a high-class twist.
Hana’s homespun brand of “casual but classy” jewellery is a fresh venture that spawned from a personal fashion dilemma. “I can never find the jewellery I really like, so now I decided to make what I’ve always been looking for.” With its blend of real 18ct gold, an understated use of diamonds, colours and fabrics with a boho-chic feel (suede, satin and leather), her first collection sold out when it was first showcased during an ‘open house’ at her family’s stunning Mohandessin apartment.
With a delicious designer logo, a flash website and interest from local boutiques, Hana’s picture-perfect pieces are bound to grace the wrists of Cairo’s achingly trendy crowd. Meanwhile, Britain’s beautiful people are in for a treat with Harrods of London set to showcase the next collection within the year. This is definitely one fashionable face to keep your eye on!
What is your biggest fashion extravagance?
I’m a typical girlie-girl when it comes to handbags!
Any fashion faux-pas lurking in your past?
Looking back, it all looks bad, but at the time it was cool. I even had a ‘Beavis and Butt-head’ T-shirt from Woolworths when I was in school!
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Matthew Williamson and Stella McCartney for clothes; Theo Fennell, Kenneth Jay Lane, Kidada Jones, Tarina Tarantino for jewellery. And of course I love my sister Heba’s upcoming collection ‘Hebz’!
Who are your fashion icons?
Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie and my beautiful baby sister Heba.
How would you describe your own personal style?
Laid back! If it’s not comfortable, I won’t be seen in it. I also love vintage fashions.
