We’re not saying that’s necessarily a bad thing; it’s actually one of the few quirks that make up our unusual identity, like our sense of humour. Yet, sometimes, we tend to take things over the top, and once we do, the issue itself becomes like a viral disease you can’t escape. Over the last few days, people on social media have had a lot to say about the viral video of singer Sherine supposedly dissing Amr Diab at Amr Youssef and Kinda Alloush’s wedding. We know that once something goes viral, there’s no stopping what will come of it. And because Amr Diab is the hero and so called “Hadaba” for more than half of the Egyptian population, it took no time for the hashtag #شيرين_السكرانه (Drunk Sherine) to trend in his defence. Boy, do Egyptians know how to escalate things quickly.

OK, we’ll be honest: SaltBae did come as a surprise. The sassy Turkish chef cutting up steak in a smooth and quirky way went viral all over the world. But then comes in the Egyptian humour to ruin his vibe. Let the guy do his own thing.

We’re not supporting one opinion over the other, it’s the general idea that people have become so quick to judge and make fun of others. Live and let live, and while you’re at it, let others be. No good can come of criticising others publicly, and everyone knows that.
