Dr Eskandar Tooma was appointed Chairman of Orascom Development Egypt in July 2025, succeeding Dr Samy Saad Zaghloul and returning to the company after previously serving on its board and as Interim Group CFO between 2013 and 2016. Bringing extensive expertise in finance, investment and corporate governance, Tooma is also a Professor of Finance at the American University in Cairo and a former Visiting Professor at Imperial College Business School. During his first year as Chairman, he has overseen a period of strategic expansion, including the addition of 1.021 million sqm to Makadi Heights, bringing its total planned area to approximately 4.75 million sqm. He has also highlighted the company’s strong tourism performance in 2026, with hotel occupancy reaching 75% in the first half of the year. His extensive career also includes advisory roles with Egypt’s Capital Market Authority and board positions at leading companies such as Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt and Madinet Masr.
