Dr. Dennis Dass

beverly hills plastic surgeon

With the rise of social media stars and mega influencers like Kim Kardashian, the plastic surgery industry has grown significantly over the last decade. The demand for plastic surgery continues to rise, with a new trend taking over every few years. Dr. Dennis Dass is an expert plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, California. Having a good eye for beauty and careful attention to detail has made his clinic a top destination for patients in need of a quick-fix or even a complete makeover. eniGma’s Editor-in-Chief Yasmine Shihata sat down with Dr. Dass to discuss his successful career, the latest cosmetic surgery trends, and how he creates beautiful results for his patients. Here are some excerpts of their conversation…

Let’s start with your background. What got you into plastic surgery?
I grew up in the United States and completed all of my education in the States. I initially received my Doctor of Pharmacy degree and went on to complete my Medical degree from the University of New Mexico. Then, I went on to a six-year integrated plastic surgery residency training here in the States, as well. I am a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I specialise in cosmetic surgery of the face and body. Some of my most common surgeries include face lifts, eyelid surgeries, breast augmentation and lifts, body contouring and tummy tucks. However, I must say, one of the most popular procedures I carry out is the Brazilian Butt Lift, which contours the entire body and makes the backside look very attractive.

Can you explain the procedure at your practice from A to Z for our readers?
My office is located in Beverly Hills. I am a solo practitioner, and I run a very busy practice, that I have have built from the ground up. I built and designed a fully accredited operating room in my office (with the same high standards as a top-notch hospital). Having an all-inclusive practice has several benefits for my clients. First and foremost, we can maintain total privacy for all our patients, because all visits and surgeries are performed in this private office setting. Going to a single location also makes it maximally convenient. In addition, our safety precautions match that of a hospital, without the risk of being exposed to the infection risk of a hospital setting.

Regarding international patients, how would the process differ, if at all? Are you conducting online consultations with them over zoom, or do they have to fly to Beverly Hills in person for the initial consultation?
I actually have a lot of patients who fly in for surgery. In fact, at least 50-60 percent of my patients travel for surgery. All of our patient consultations and evaluations are done virtually, whether you live in town or half way around the world. Technology has made it possible to perform most communication over email, and in some cases video conferencing is used to aid in the process. Clients fill out their medical history online and send us photos of the areas that they would like to address. I have become quite skilled at performing evaluations by photos, as I have been offering virtual evaluations for travelling patients for several years. This process has proven to be very efficient and saves a lot of time for prospective clients. Additional preparatory work is done via email, and the clients fly into Los Angeles (LAX) just one or two days prior to surgery, in order for us to meet and confirm the plan. The next day I perform their surgery, they come back to the office for a follow-up, and are usually ready to fly home a week after surgery. This process has worked out very well for my clients.

What would you say is the sort of “perfect” or right age for plastic surgery for kids?
I only operate on adult patients. I do not offer cosmetic surgery to children. There is a certain level of maturity, both physically and mentally that one needs to have, to be prepared for plastic surgery. Plastic surgery can be an emotional rollercoaster. Patients often go through periods of happiness and sadness, related to anesthesia and the recovery process. I can only offer surgeries to clients who are 100% ready to proceed with a procedure. During the patient evaluation, we try to make certain that patients are both physically and emotionally ready for such a monumentally life-changing surgery.

You have quite an inspiring reputation of invoking confidence in people. The satisfaction that comes from making your patient’s dreams come true must be amazing.
That is precisely the reason why I chose this specialty. I work with healthy patients, I create beautiful results, and I have a high-level of patient satisfaction. Being able to fix a problem and create happiness for my patients, gives me that instant gratification, that makes going to work not feel like “going to work” per se. At the end of the day, it is beyond fun for me and for the patients that I help during the healing process, because they look and feel confident after their procedure. That’s not to say individuals need plastic surgery to feel confident, but what can be better than putting a smile on a person’s face? I am lucky to have a job that I love…I truly do have the best job in the world!

Is this what drew you into the field or did this satisfaction come after you gradually found your way in the practice?
From the start, making people happy is exactly what drew me to plastic surgery. I imagine that all of my colleagues have a similar feeling. I mean, I always knew I would end up somewhere in the medical field in general, and I knew that this was where my calling was. Sometimes, you just know. When I actually started practicing and observed the joy that my patients were experiencing post-surgery, this further confirmed the conclusion that plastic surgery is where I needed to be. During my early medical school days, my mentors told me that I was a natural in the operating room, and they really encouraged me to pursue plastic surgery. I’m glad I took their advice.

What is the latest trend in plastic surgery?
The TruCurve Brazilian Butt Lift is my most popular procedure and it transcends every age group, I mean, who doesn’t want a slimmer figure with curves in all the right places and a perky bum? This procedure is a circumferential liposuction of the midsection and fat transfer to the bum and hips dips. I focus on sculpting the entire body to create smooth contours, with perfect proportions that look dramatically beautiful.

Facial contouring procedures are very popular among women in their 20s and 30s. I slim the face by removing the buccal fat pad in the cheeks, liposuction the fat deposit on the chin, tighten the skin along the jawline with a laser, and in some cases add some filler to the cheekbones. The procedure has minimal downtime and the result is dramatic definition of the cheeks and jawline.

I perform facelifts, eyelid lifts, and laser resurfacing on my older clients that need to look more youthful and refreshed.

What would you say to someone who wants to have a cosmetic procedure but is worried about this pandemic?
These are difficult times, and it can be overwhelming and frustrating. Sometimes, one just needs something positive, a little pick-me up, to feel better. One should not feel bad or guilty for wanting to do something that makes one look and feel good. In fact, I have a lot of clients taking advantage of this opportunity to have a procedure and recover while working remotely, so they don’t have to take time away from work. Also, now is the time to get ready, to work on yourself, to look your best, because things will get back to normal in the near future.
