Known for seamlessly blending genres, cultures, and generations, he has built a reputation for dynamic sets guided not by playlists, but by the energy of the crowd. Drawing on his multicultural background and lifelong passion for music, DJ Dreamz has developed a style that celebrates connection, inclusivity, and the universal power of sound. Enigma’s Salma Owis spoke with DJ Dreamz to discuss his journey into music, the art of reading a crowd, embracing cultural influences, and creating unforgettable experiences through every set.
Evan Wanis, better known as DJ Dreamz, has always believed that music is more than entertainment. It is the force that has shaped his life since childhood, eventually becoming a career centred on bringing people together during some of their most memorable moments.
Growing up, music was woven into his everyday life. Learning to play instruments including the piano, violin, and drums gave him a deep appreciation for sound long before he stepped behind the DJ booth. “Music has always been a huge part of my life,” he says. “What started as something I did for fun quickly turned into a career I truly love. Today, I’m grateful to make people celebrate some of the biggest moments of their lives through music.”
Rather than specialising in a single genre, DJ Dreamz has established himself as an open-format DJ, seamlessly moving between hip-hop, house, EDM, Top 40, Latin, Afrobeats, throwbacks, and Arabic music. His multicultural upbringing has naturally influenced his sound, allowing him to bring different musical worlds together and transform them into one cohesive experience.
“My goal isn’t to play what I want to hear,” he explains. “It’s to create the right soundtrack for the crowd, keep everyone connected, and make sure every person on the dance floor feels included.” That philosophy extends far beyond his playlists.
Every performance begins before the event itself, with careful preparation and conversations with clients. Yet, once the music starts, instinct takes over. “No matter how much you prepare, the audience ultimately guides the direction of the night,” he says. “The best sets come from finding that balance.”
It is this ability to read a room that he believes defines his work. Rather than relying on a predetermined setlist, he constantly adapts to the energy in front of him, ensuring that every guest feels like part of the celebration.
Watching that energy unfold remains his favourite part of performing. “Whether it’s a packed dance floor, friends singing every word together, or seeing people from different backgrounds connect through music, those are the moments that make it all worthwhile.”
Looking ahead, DJ Dreamz has his sights set on performing everywhere from Las Vegas and Ibiza to Egypt and Japan, continuing his mission to connect people through music. After all, as he puts it, “Music is a universal language.” And if audiences leave with memories they will cherish for years to come, he knows he has done exactly what he set out to do.
