Do you have a problem with your concealer never properly covering up what it needs to? When you walk through a makeup store, you probably come across salespeople offering you colour correcting products. Then, you get confused when you start seeing orange or green and end up just walking away because you have no idea when you’re ever going to need rainbow-coloured makeup.
Here’s a tip to live by: you can never conceal without using a colour corrector underneath to neutralise colour imperfections on your skin.

Dark Circles
It will come as no shock that, sometimes, when you apply concealer directly to your dark circles, they either end up looking too white or slightly grey. That is because you need to use a peach or an orange colour corrector first to “correct” and then, apply your concealer over it.
If you have lighter skin, using orange will make your dark circles even darker, so generally, you should go for a peach colour corrector. For warmer, darker skin tones, go orange all the way!
Red Spots
It is also a common problem that when we try to cover up red spots, we can’t quite perfectly cover up all of the redness with concealer. For that, you need to use a green colour corrector, first! This may sound weird, but it always works. The green colour neutralises the redness, and thus, allows you to conceal a spot, making it seem like it was never even there.

How to Pick the Right Product
Here are a few colour correctors and concealers that we highly recommend depending on how much coverage you need and how heavy your makeup is.
For lightweight makeup, always go for a product that is creamier and blends well into the skin because if you’re not going for heavy skin coverage, you don’t want something that is visible on the surface of the skin.
For heavier makeup, when you’re going to apply heavy foundation, always go for a product with a thicker consistency because it gives proper coverage that balances out the rest of the makeup you’re applying.
Peach Colour Corrector – for lighter skin tones:
For natural, lightweight makeup: Urban Decay NAKED Skin Color Correcting Fluid in peachy Pink

For heavier, night-out/special occasion makeup: Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Emerge Peach

Orange Colour Corrector – for medium to darker skin tones:
For natural/lightweight makeup: MAC Studio Conceal & Correct Duo

For heavier, night-out/special occasion makeup: MAC Studio Finish Skin Corrector

Green Colour Corrector – for redness, pimples and red spots
For natural/lightweight makeup: Urban Decay NAKED Skin Color Correcting Fluid in Green

For heavier, night-out/special occasion makeup: Make Up Forever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette

Concealers:
Our highly recommended concealer is NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, which comes in a variety of shades, covers and blends perfectly into the skin. No disappointments with this one!

For heavier coverage, use Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Concealer

BONUS TIP!
For heavy coverage correctors or concealers, always take a bit out of the pot and warm it up in your hand before applying it to your face. This makes the thick consistency of the product easier to blend, thus allowing it to go on smoother.
Remember to always correct before you conceal, and thank us later for your insanely flawless makeup results.
