In February 2026, Abdel Aziz Konsowa was appointed Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. In the first few months of his tenure, he hailed an unprecedented scientific breakthrough: the publication of results from the largest whole-genome sequencing study of 1,024 Egyptian citizens across 21 governorates. He is also heading key presidential initiatives such as the Future Skills Academy. He has also introduced Technology Valleys as integrated ecosystems that foster innovation through effective collaboration between academia and industry. Since July 2026, he has also served as acting Minister of Culture.
