Dr. Mohamed Awad was appointed Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) in April 2026. With over 25 years of experience in economic policy and strategic planning, Awad previously served as the Chairman of the Internal Trade Development Authority (ITDA) from October 2025. Under his leadership, the authority has significantly improved service delivery by standardising concepts and procedures across Investor Service Centres nationwide to optimise speed and quality for businesses. Awad is currently prioritising digital transformation and industrial infrastructure, driving the launch of a comprehensive AI-powered e-portal alongside accelerated construction within new Public Free Zones across Egypt.
