Kamel Al-Wazir has been Egypt’s Minister of Transport since 2019. From 2024 to February 2026, he also served as Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry. He has spearheaded the development of a high-speed electric rail network that will lay the foundation for sustainable mobility and long-term social progress for future generations. During his tenure, Egypt rose to 19th place globally in the Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) in 2026, up from 23rd place in 2024, ranking first in Africa and second in the Arab world.
