Born and raised in Southern California, Nathalie knew from a very young age that dancing was her passion. Her dedication earned her a BFA in Dance, paving the way for a career that has taken her to stages across the globe. At Enigma’s 12th Celebration of Arab Glamour & Success, all eyes were on the belly dancer, Nathalie, as she lit up the stage with a show-stopping performance. Enigma’s Habiba Abdulsalam had the chance to chat with the talented dancer about her journey, from discovering her passion to captivating audiences all over the world.
Nathalie grew up in a family deeply rooted in the arts, becoming the third generation of professional dancers in her lineage. As a graduate of California State University, Long Beach, with a BFA in Dance, she has carved out a thriving career as both a professional belly dancer and a Pilates instructor. Beyond belly dancing, Nathalie finds joy in travelling, volunteering with horses, and immersing herself in the ocean, which keeps her inspired, grounded, and deeply connected to the world around her.
Her love for movement began with ballet, performing from an early age. But everything changed at the age of nine, when her mother, who is also a belly dancer, gifted her a Madame Abla belly dance costume. Years later, Nathalie was performing alongside her mother at belly dance showcases, instantly knowing she had found her calling. “The costumes, the music, the movement, it felt magical in a way ballet didn’t. Even though I still love ballet deeply, belly dancing transported me to another world,” she recalls.
She learnt belly dancing by tagging along to her mother’s shows and classes, and through videos of iconic dancers from Egypt and Lebanon, but Nadia Gamal was always her favourite. “I’d watch her shows, especially her floor work, and try to copy her at home,” she says.

Nathalie’s big break came when she was just 15, when world-renowned Egyptian composer Dr. Samy Farag offered her a solo stage performance. From that moment on, he became a steadfast source of encouragement and support. Over the years, their creative partnership flourished, leading to music videos and performances across the globe.
One of the defining moments in Nathalie’s career was winning the prestigious Ahlan Wa Sahlan belly dance competition at the iconic Mena House in Cairo. Her impressive portfolio also includes collaborations with celebrated artists both on stage and behind the camera, most recently performing and choreographing shows with music icons Massari and Al Shami.
Nathalie’s path hasn’t been without challenges, as some family members struggled to support her career choice. Still, she remained optimistic and committed to her passion. “I fell in love with this art form as a child, and I remind myself every day how blessed I am to do what I love. What I’ve achieved will always mean more to me than anyone’s opinion,” she shares.
Nathalie draws inspiration from legendary belly dancers such as Nadia Gamal, Samia Gamal, Dina, and Randa Kamel, artists who have profoundly shaped her craft. She also credits her teacher, Yousry Sharif, for his masterful fusion of Western and Middle Eastern influences. “Whenever I’m feeling uninspired, I turn to their work and instantly feel reinvigorated,” she says.
Her favourite thing about the field when she was little was the costumes. Now, it’s the whole experience: the glamour, the music, the movement, the connection with the audience, and the magic of being on stage. “For me, the greatest joy is letting the music take control, moving instinctively so that my body expresses and interprets every nuance,” Nathalie reveals.
Reflecting on her experience with Enigma Magazine at the 12th Celebration of Arab Glamour & Success, Nathalie expressed her admiration for the publication. “Enigma has this beautiful blend of elegance and energy,” she says. “It was an honour to share my art on a stage surrounded by so much talent and creativity. They celebrate artistry in all its forms, and they do it with such style.”
