Sir Magdi Yacoub is a distinguished cardiothoracic surgeon renowned for his groundbreaking work in heart surgery and transplantation. He is a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and the Founder and Director of Research at the Magdi Yacoub Institute at Harefield Heart Science Centre, where he established the world’s largest heart and lung transplantation program. He also founded the Chain of Hope Foundation, which provides free heart surgery to children from developing and war-torn countries. He also established the Aswan Heart Centre in Egypt, offering state-of-the-art medical services free of charge. He has been actively involved in advancing tissue engineering and myocardial regeneration research, which are crucial for developing innovative treatments for heart disease.
