In 2024, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar was appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development, in addition to being Minister of Health and Population since 2021. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar launched and expanded the Bedaya initiative, which delivered 39.6 million services, including healthcare outreach, empowerment programs, distribution of food supplies, cultural and educational activities, literacy classes, and support for families. He also oversaw the inspection and development of the Suez Medical Complex, a massive facility with specialised departments, operating rooms, diagnostic units, and laboratories, boosting access to quality care in the Canal region.
