Veronica Gerges founded her hair styling studio, Vera Hair Salon, in Newport Beach, California in November 2020, and quickly became known as one of the best hairstylists in the area. It was therefore fitting that eniGma turned to her to pamper our celebrity guests at our 9th Celebration of Arab Glamour & Success in Beverly Hills. Her hairstyling skills and excellent service elicited high praise from them and contributed to their fabulous red carpet looks on this beautiful night. eniGma’s Farida Elserty had the chance to chat virtually with Gerges to learn more about her business and her impressive path to success. Let’s start with a brief overview on your business.
First, I want to thank eniGma Magazine for taking the time to interview me. I feel very honoured. Vera Hair is an innovative and stylish premier hair salon in Newport Beach, California. Our highly trained stylists and colourists are skilled in all professional hair services for men and women. We offer haircuts, colour, balayage, highlights, Brazilian blowouts, conditioning treatments, extensions, bridal hair, barbering, and beard trimming. We strive to pamper our clients with welcoming staff and the utmost quality service.
Why did you decide to strike out as a hairstylist?
Since I was a child, I have always been passionate about hairstyling and anything related to this field. My biggest dream of all time was to open my hair salon where I could practice my favourite hobby as a job.
What are your favourite hairstyles?
I love when a client gives me the creative freedom to do anything. Nevertheless, beautiful fun/punky colours are my favourite. Besides, I love doing balayage very much.
If you could tell our readers the best hair tip of all time, what would it be?
Everyone’s hair is different. Just because one product works for one hair type doesn’t mean it will work for another.
Straightening our hair has become an essential routine. As a professional, what is your advice on how to keep our hair healthy when it is exposed to so much heat?
Treatments are essential. Additionally, it is crucial to switch from using a daily conditioner to a deep conditioner. Moreover, heat protection is necessary to keep your hair healthy.
How do you keep updated on the latest hair trends?
I keep updated on the latest trends in the hair industry by watching videos and reading hair-styling-related articles during my free time. Also, since I love this field, I see inspiration everywhere.
What is the hardest part of your job?
The hardest part about being a hairstylist is time management, especially since I want to go above and beyond expectations all the time.
What was your most outstanding achievement as a hairstylist?
Owning my salon is my biggest achievement but living my passion every day is the biggest reward.
With winter in full swing, can you tell us more about the latest winter hair trends?
This winter, natural hair is the latest trend. So, let your curls free and stock up on moisturising leave-in products for more hold.
What tips can you give to up-and-coming hairstylists?
There are no mistakes, only lessons we can learn from. Never doubt yourself, and always be open to learning from others.
