Egyptian-American Hany Azer, or DJ Azaro, as he is known, is very passionate about music. After growing up with his family in New York, DJ Azaro moved to California after 9/11 where he went on to study Business Management and, later, to study Law. Passionate about music since a young age, he also embarked on his journey as a DJ, and in 2009 began performing at events in Los Angeles. We were therefore thrilled to have him take part in entertaining our guests at our 9th Celebration of Arab Glamour & Success in Beverly Hills. eniGma’s Rawya Lamei chatted with him virtually and got to know more about his exciting musical career.
Throughout the conversation with DJ Azaro, his passion for music shown through. He became a DJ in 2009, in between obtaining two difficult university degrees. It started out as a hobby that was great at releasing the stress he experienced from his studies. Performing during his time in Law School was particularly important, as his law studies required a tremendous amount of effort. Music was what he would turn to when he felt overwhelmed. Listening to music and standing behind the mixer was truly a breath of fresh air to him.
Later, he decided to turn his hobby as a DJ into a profession as well. “I thought to myself–this is my passion; this is what I want to do!” he exclaims.
Azaro DJs at all kinds of events. He started out performing in lounges and clubs, but eventually, shifted to doing private events, weddings, and red-carpet events. He was therefore ecstatic when the team at eniGma reached out to him to perform at eniGma’s 9th Celebration of Arab Glamour & Success. This was his first ever Egyptian event. “It was super exciting to get the chance to meet people like Bassem Youssef and Nelly Karim,” he exclaims.
Comparing DJing at different types of events, DJ Azaro notes that weddings are completely different from any other event. “It’s really hit or miss. It’s a huge responsibility, and there’s no room for mistakes. I simply cannot afford to ruin someone’s big day, and that’s why with weddings, I need to be fully-focused and well prepared. Can you imagine if the bride and groom select a song for their first dance and the DJ plays something different!” he says, laughing. “It’s a challenge, but I like a good challenge. I respect the reviews and feedback that I get, and at times they are outstanding. So, the effort and hard work that you put into it just pays off,” he adds.
Throughout our conversation, DJ Azaro repeats how much he loves his audiences, and how he puts his all into making everybody happy. “The response of the crowd is amazing – going crazy on the dance floor!” he says. Getting that kind of feedback makes him feel very happy and proud of himself, which, he says, is what anyone looks forward to in life.
Music is not just a job for DJ Azaro. It’s something that he loves and enjoys profoundly. He concludes, “I am a firm believer that if you do what you love, you will never be hesitant or shy, and will always take risks. Truly, it’s something that makes me happy to stand behind the mixer, to see the crowd happy, to see them partying, smiling, and laughing. I just get so excited!”
