Farida Osman wins Bronze Medal at World Swimming Championship

Egypt’s incredibly talented ‘golden fish’, Farida Osman, won the bronze medal at the World Swimming Championship in the women’s 50m butterfly final at Gwangju, South Korea on Saturday. What’s even more impressive is that this incredible victory came despite Osman suffering from serious health issues, including shortness of breath, at the time.

After coming in third with an astounding time of 25.47 seconds, the 24 year-old swimmer posted a 30 second video on her Facebook page thanking her fans for their continuous support. “Thank you for your support and for all your messages,” she said. “In terms of my health, thank God, I am better now. Yesterday was a difficult day, but I am happy that I made Egypt proud and that I made all of you proud too,” she added.

Osman’s impressive third place victory in the butterfly final put a smile on every one of her fan’s faces, more than making up for the fact that she had to miss taking part in the 50m freestyle.

This success is just the most recent win for the young swimming talent. Over the past few years, Osman has made a name for herself one of the fastest female swimmers in Africa in both freestyle and butterfly. Having started swimming at the age of 5, thanks to tons of practice and immense dedication, she rose to become an Olympian by 17 years of age. In 2017, she won Best Female Athlete from Africa by the Association of National Olympic Committees’ awards in Prague.

In total, the Egyptian swimming team won an impressive 7 medals in this year’s World Swimming Championship. Congratulations to the whole team, and we wish the inspirational ‘golden fish’, Farida Osman, a speedy recovery!
