5 underrated series you have to watch!

So you think you’ve already watched all the series worth watching and there is nothing left for you to see? Well guess again! Although this selection might not have the viral references or widespread reputations that other more popular shows have, when it comes to gripping plot-lines, compelling characters and excellent cinematography, they are the best around. So read on to find out what you need to add to your must-watch list.

1) Lucifer

Lucifer is a Netflix series based on the DC comic by the same name. The four season programme follows the prince of darkness on his adventures on Earth. Bored of hell and God’s unrelenting control, Lucifer retires on Earth where he becomes an LA club owner armed with the power of mind control, granting humans favors that he later collects on. After meeting and becoming besotted by Detective Chloe Decker, Lucifer ends up as a maverick adviser to the LAPD. This unusual crime fighting duo take on the dark underbelly of LA. What makes this series different is that it doesn’t portray the devil as the evil, malevolent “let’s destroy all of mankind” type, taking a more “scorned angel” approach instead, where the devil becomes, for lack of a better word, human.

2) Veronica Mars

Although this show was first launched 15 years ago, it has definitely stood the test of time, returning for its fourth season earlier this year. Veronica Mars follows the story of a teenage girl, Veronica, who begins investigating the murder of her best friend in order to clear the accused man, as well as her father who had also been implicated and pushed out of his position of Sheriff as a result. Working through her father’s new private investigation agency, Mars ends up solving numerous unsolved cases. Juicier than your average murder mystery show, Kristen Bell brings the character of Veronica Mars to life with a heavy dose of sass and plenty of romantic roller coasters.

3) Peaky Blinders

Set in post-World War I Britain, Peaky Blinders is an action-packed drama that has it all! The returning soldiers, gang leaders and revolutionaries fight it out for survival in a poverty stricken community, decimated by war. The series follows Thomas Shelby, an army veteran and war hero who becomes the leader of a ruthless but strangely lovable gang, the Peaky Blinders. When a gun crate goes missing, Shelby takes it as an opportunity to advance in the world of crime, instead of settling for just running the street. His ultimate goal becomes to take over Britain’s crime underworld and get rid of the prying crime inspector Chester Campbell. Crime and action-filled, this series is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat! With the fifth season coming out in a few days, it is definitely time to binge the first four.

4) Westworld

This series is a must see for all the science fiction lovers out there. Westworld is based on the 1973 film of the same name, which was written and directed by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton. This thriller series, launched in 2016, is set in an exclusive Wild-West themed amusement park designed to cater for rich vacationers. The park is maintained by robotic (humanoid) hosts, who encourage the guests to live their fantasies through artificial consciousness. Every human appetite in this futuristic world can be enjoyed without consequences, but things unexpectedly take a turn for the worst, throwing us into a plot filled with drama and chaos.

5) Dynasty

With drama, tea, cat-fights and more drama, Dynasty follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys and their feud over the control of their fortune and children. The main source of drama in this 1980s reboot comes from Fallon Carrington, heiress of the Carrington family, and her soon-to-be stepmom, Cristal. While showing the golden side of the wealthiest families in America, Dynasty also exposes the dark side of their high life, with all the backroom deals and hidden agendas. With only two seasons out so far, you don’t have too many episodes to catch up on!
