Egyptian furniture and product designer Dina Shoukry was shortlisted as a finalist at the 2023 Edition of the Ro Plastic Prize in Milan. The Ro Plastic Prize is a yearly international award that rewards projects that feature material recycling and raise awareness about the importance of recycling, reusing and upcycling materials. Shoukry was among the finalist projects showcased in the exhibition curated by Nicoletta Orlandi Brugnoni during Milan Design Week 2023 from 17 to 23 April 2023.
After graduating with a degree in Advertising and Marketing from Misr International University, Shoukry ventured into interior design. In 2010, she was selected to participate in the groundbreaking “+20 Egypt Design’’ exhibition that was held on Al Muiz Street under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry to promote Egyptian furniture design. Her wooden-topped table with legs made of colourful shisha pipes caught everyone’s attention with its novelty and creativity.
Since then, Shoukry has continued her unique art form, designing extraordinary coffee tables using high-quality and creative materials. Her designs attract an audience with a passion for art, and who take pride in owning one-of-a-kind pieces. Shoukry conveys a cultural message integrated in her unique functional artworks. She combines creativity, simplicity, and elegance, and is inspired by everything around her, including colours and shapes or culture, and history.
