The Chain of Hope’s Annual Ball celebrated its fifth year this year and was once again hosted by Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, the Egyptian world renowned heart surgeon and President of Chain of Hope, together with Omar Sharif, Vice President of Chain of Hope. The Chain of Hope mobilizes volunteer teams from Great Ormond Street, Guys and St. Thomas and Royal Brompton Hospitals as well as many other cardiac hospitals in the UK. The teams then go and operate on children suffering from life-threatening heart disease in countries such as Mozambique, Jamaica, Ethiopia, Kenya and Egypt. The evening raised over £350,000, which went directly towards life-saving treatments for children suffering from heart disease in developing countries. This year’s guests included a number of attendees from Egypt, who helped make the evening a big success. The evening also attracted celebrity guests, including Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, comedian Omid Djalili and actress Chloe Delevigne, and was sponsored by Damas Jewellery in Knightsbridge.
